Silent Night

Title: Silent Night
Written for the Armed Bastards Exchange Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] hambelandjemima
Rating: White Cortina
Word Count: 385 words.
Notes: I offered the internal dialogue of a single character.  Here is Supt Rathbone musing on Silent Night.

‘It’s all very well having to perform civic duties to keep the public happy, but if I hadn’t had to go to that flaming carol service, I could be home by now instead of finishing off here.’  Superintendant Rathbone thought to himself as he walked through the police station in the early evening.  ‘As if there wasn’t enough on my plate, without wretched carols.’

Silent Night

I expect CID will have all pushed off to the pub.  Wonder whether Hunt’s taken that pernickety inspector with him or just sent him home.

Holy Night

There’s been nothing holy about today.  Two experienced sergeants been on the take for months if not years.  How the hell I’m going to cover this up I don’t know.  Bloody Tyler going on about going public with it.  No way, they have both resigned and that’ll have to be an end of it.

All is Calm

It is now.  It wasn’t earlier; a suspect beaten half to death in one of the cells.  Tyler shouting at me and even DCI bloody Hunt accusing me of not doing my job properly.  Who does he think he is, saying if I hadn’t turned a blind eye none of this would have happened.

All is Bright

Well, it certainly threw a different light on things.  Once Harding started to talk there was no stopping him.  And with evidence to incriminate not only the two sergeants in this station, but also a number of members in ‘B’ division.

Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child

Must remember to tell Phyllis that the rotas will have to be rewritten.

Holy Infant, so Tender and Mild

And all because Skelton decided to go through the reports a second time, saying he was going to do it the way the Boss had told him.  Ever since Tyler’s joined us from Hyde he’s caused no end of upheaval, with his new ways of doing things and his insistence on doing things ‘by the book’.  Trouble is, some of the others seem to be adopting his ways as well.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

I’ll just drop this file off in Hunt’s office and then I’m going home.  What?  Tyler’s still here – does he never stop?

“Go home Tyler.  You did a good job today.”

“Thank you, Sir.”
