February Drabbles
Attack is the best form of defence (Icon drabble)
“If you had listened to me for once, we wouldn’t have ended up in that mess. I wanted to look at the map, but no, you knew better, this was a brilliant short cut and we’d easily get in front of the blaggers.”
“Well, it would have worked fine if those cows hadn’t broken the fence down and blocked the road.”
“No, it wouldn’t.”
“And you could have got out of the car to help Ray and Chris to get them back in the field.”
“I didn’t want to get my boots muddy.”
“Admit it Dorothy – you’re afraid of cows.”

Just Desserts
If Annie hadn’t dropped her bag, her lipstick wouldn’t have fallen out. And if her lipstick hadn’t rolled under the desk she wouldn’t have had to get down on her hands and knees to retrieve it. Which was why, when Ray was telling Chris how he was going to blame the “stupid plonk” for spilling water all over the file DI Tyler was currently working on, she wasn’t noticed.
Once they had left, Annie carefully picked up the file, wiped Sam’s desk dry and placed the wet file on Ray’s desk. Now DS Carling would have egg on his face.

Secret Valentine
The little girl sat in the corner of the room, a heart shaped box of chocolates in one hand and a clown in the other. She put the clown down and began to eat the chocolates one at a time.
“He loves me,” she smiled at Sam.
“He loves me not,” the look she gave him was poisonous.
“He loves me.”
Sam sat mesmerised, dreading the final outcome – neither result looked as if it would be to his advantage.
“He loves me not.”
At that moment Gene Hunt barrelled through the door and Sam knew who it was he loved.

The Wake Up Call
“Sam? Sam? Can you hear me?”
Receiving no reply, Gene burst open the door to Sam’s apology for a flat. Sam was still fast asleep, lying face down on his bed.
“Sam,” no response, so louder. “Sam... It’s a beautiful morning and we are going out.”
“Go away, I’m sleeping.”
Gene sat down heavily on the edge of the bed, causing his DI to fall onto the floor.
“What you do that for?” Sam grumbled.
“Like I said. We are going out. I need to buy some new gloves and I thought you might like to help me choose them.”
