It is so exciting that the more we look, the more we find out there. I read somewhere that the galaxy/universe is actually quite young, and I rather like the idea that we might be one of the first civilizations out there. Maybe several million years in the future we will be one of the mysterious lost forerunners for some grand galactic empire belonging to some other creatures. That makes me feel better about the prospect of extinction.
