On the subject of ranting

There are times when I feel tempted to rant about fandom issues and then I tell myself to take a step backwards, because these are not life and death matters and there are other things that are more important.  For instance:

The residents where I work receive housing benefit to pay for their rent.  And most of their rents are paid directly to us, as their landlord.  Every four weeks when we receive the payment I check to ensure it's correct.  This week I discovered that the rent hadn't been paid for one resident.  I phoned up the council, who checked and discovered that it had been put on stop whilst the annual review as to entitlement was processed.  There was no change in benefits (we had a letter to prove this), but the stop hadn't been removed from the payment.  This has now been sorted and we should get the money next week.

No big deal perhaps.  But what if this had been an individual, perhaps a vulnerable older person?  I knew exactly what to do, because this isn't the first time it's happened.  And I'm paid to sit on the telephone listening to music whilst a tinny voice refers me to the website.  Not everyone is in that position.

And not a rant, but because I'm impressed with her.  My newly qualified staff nurse daughter, on a recent night shift, was, for a while, senior nurse responsible for 19 patients.  And even when the other staff came back from their break, she was still responsible for 10 patients, with the assistance of a nursery nurse.
