Three things which are orange:

1. Citrus fruits

I do like the smaller orange citrus fruits: satsumas, tangerines, etc.  When the kids were at home I used to sometimes make trifle with orange jelly and tinned mandarin slices, which was really nice.


2. Marigolds

And lots of other small orange flowers, plus roses.  So bright and cheerful.


3. Ginger cats (and goldfish)

At one point we had two cats - farm kittens, brothers who shared a brain.  One was ginger and the other was ginger and white.  Our previous cat had been extremely intelligent, this pair were useless - although one of them did manage to catch the neighbour's goldfish, which it brought home and we'd rescue the fish and send it back in a bucket of water.  To be accurate our son was sent back with the fish.

I like citrus fruit myself. I like them all except grapefruit but I did have a very good grapefruit one time at a Bed & Breakfast inn in Oregon where they cut the grapefruit in half and grilled it with sugar. I tried to replicate it at home but it was never as good.

I'm not a fan of grapefruit - my preference is definitely for the small orange fruits.

We've had three cats over the years, and I had one before that in my teens.

Is there a reason they chose 60 words as a target? I hadn't seen fics shorter than drabbles before. (And I struggle to convey anything meaningful in 100 words. 60 is quite impressive.)

60 words for the 60 canon stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle. The comm began as a way of reading once through the canon, but continued for another four (I think) read throughs. Each drabble was inspired by the story, but could go in all sorts of ways. I write a lot of drabbles anyway ;)

smallhobbit, did anyone manage to get Babylonians into one of those 60 word fics? What with the degrees and minutes.

I don't recall any Babylonians - lots of Victorian London though.

The maths teacher said the Babylonionas sexagesimal system was better. The students were unimpressed.

What a yummy sounding trifle, we have a mandarin tree, maybe I should try it. We also have an orange tree and the oranges are just staring to nicely ripen.
