Interesting verbs. Do people keep chickens as pets? When I was a child you could play tic tac toe with a live chicken at the fair. He always been you.

Not generally. People keep chickens for eggs. Having got the square I can use them however fits. I'm planning on writing retirement era Holmes, so chickens will be easy. I like the idea of losing a game to a chicken, maybe I shall bring that in too!
