Snowflake Day 9: Brag About Yourself (Also Day 8 A Wish)

In your own space, brag about yourself.  Tell us what you've done that you're proud of; the things that make you the wonderful person that you are.

Firstly, I volunteer for a local baby bank: Gloucestershire Bundles.  (Go support your own local baby bank!) 

Secondly, I'm an assistant leader of a local Brownie Unit and go by the name of Screech Owl (Brownies are the UK 7-10 year old section of Girl Guides - like Girl Scouts).  Give me a wave if you're involved in your equivalent. 

And my Day 8 Wish: I'm running the Thinking Day activity for our unit this year - by Zoom - and we'll be making a paper doll chain, with the dolls wearing the uniform of girls of the equivalent age from units around the world.  Ideally, I'd like links to shops so I can see the uniform clearly, but national websites would be good too.  I have a few from when I last did a similar activity, but a variety would be awesome.

Thirdly, I have created a few characters who are very popular in their own world: the Ferret who is part of a group of creatures who assist Sherlock Holmes/create chaos; his latest outing is here: Charades  The Ferret even has his own fan.  And Lucas the werewolf (Spooks [MI5]) who can be found here: Lucas the Werewolf   a werewolf like no other.

Thank you so much for sharing! You are definitely worth bragging about! :) That volunteering and other activities... And do I understand correctly that Lucas is a canon character in one of your fandoms, but you've developed him into a werewolf? Yay for werewolves!

Lucas is a canon character, but in one 'verse I write he was turned into a werewolf - except this is a loved werewolf, who benefits from being brushed and likes to wear bowties.

I feel like this is an American English vs. British English thing - what on earth is a baby bank? I've heard of sperm banks that can lead to babies .. .

A baby bank is like a food bank, except that we provide equipment and clothing for mothers-to-be and children up to the age of 16 to families in need - in our case on a referral basis from professionals (social workers, health visitors, school pastoral teams etc). I think they're less common in the States though some of my American friends have heard of them.

We provide items for say, families who have fled domestic violence and have nothing, families whose income has suddenly reduced (an increasing problem at the moment) etc.

That's no problem - we're trying to give the Brownies as much fun as we can, but, as you can imagine, zoom isn't as good as face-to-face, although much better than nothing.

these are great things to be proud of! i was a brownie (i think i was seven?) but never went on to being a girl scout. that paper doll chain sounds really cool. i don't think it would have occurred to me that girl scouts/girl guides in different countries would have different uniforms, but of course they would.

Thank you - it's all a matter of balance - some weeks I spend longer on one thing, some on another. And I finish work at the end of March (I'm only doing three morning a week now) which will also help.
