Hammered Flowers

Yesterday's Dare to Dabble was hammered flowers.

We began with a fabric bag, a piece of fabric and a hammer.  It was quite funny seeing all these apparently respectable ladies removing hammers from their bags.

We then took some flower heads and leaves, which were placed on the fabric bag and covered with the piece of fabric.

The flowers were then hammered firmly, before the fabric was removed and the remains of the flower scraped away.

I wasn't entirely convinced with this quarter of the bag, so I used a Sharpie and added some details:

We continued on, making patterns with different flower heads:

Until we were satisfied with what we had produced:

Which left the reverse to be completed.  I decided a more cartoonish picture was called for.

Rather a noisy session, but a pretty outcome.

I have never heard of this technique before. Very interesting, and the result is so pretty!

That's amazing, I had no idea it was possible to do such a thing. I don't imagine the bags would be washable though, the patterns would probably wash off which would be a shame because what you've achieved is really pretty!

There should be some way of sealing it, but I don't know what you'd use.

Wow. This is completely new-to-me but the end result is really nice. I love it. It's great that you're getting a taste of so many new ideas with Dare to Dabble (of course I always read it 'dare to drabble' but that's another pounding with a different hammer, no?)

A mad sounding craft but very effective :-)

I absolutely love the results that you obtained from the hammered flowers craft. I especially like what you did with the hummingbird and butterflies, though the whole effect is gorgeous.

What a lovely result - quite amazing. Would it be good for producing something positive while hammering out your frustrations? 😉

What a bizarre and yet fun thing to do—spend a craft session hitting things with a hammer! Seems to be surprisingly effective.

That's really cool. Is it permanent, or is this a never wash sort of thing?
