Holiday Reflections

smallhobbitHaving already written about what we saw on holiday, and commented on the opportunities to speak German, I wanted to just add a few more thoughts.
This was a coach trip, so we were the youngest there, apart from one other. But we expected that, and it did what we wanted it to do - got us to a country we'd not been to before, without all the hassle of making sure we caught the plane etc etc. We were picked up from our house and brought back to the house, all of which was great. We now know we could speak enough German that we could travel around the country without problems. Also, we wouldn't have known where in Germany we wanted to go, so the fact that the trip was to the Moselle solved that problem for us.
The major downside of being with a coach party for me was the lack of time to myself. I need time alone. A large number of the group, SM included, went to a bar one evening after dinner. I walked over with them and then came back and had a wonderful hour all by myself. That was the night I slept best as well.
The journey home took 15 hours. The coach was comfortable, but even so. It was the coach company our son works for, so he had arranged to bring us home from the drop off point, which was nice. Then my bag went on an unscheduled tour of the Cotswolds, which didn't really matter, except that the chocolate was packed in it.
The holiday itself was really well organised and I have no complaints there. I would go with them again. But probably not to Germany. I would give more thought to making sure I had time to myself. And I would remind my son that I'm probably the only one travelling with a Winnie-the-Pooh holdall.
