This week it's the Cardiff Singer of the World competition.  For SM's Christmas present I bought him tickets to the Song Prize, which is for a singer with an accompanist, rather than a whole orchestra.  Of the 20 singers competing, 15 also took part in the Song Prize.  The four rounds took place from Sunday to Tuesday, with the final on Friday (tomorrow).  We decided to stay in Cardiff for the beginning of the week and I would explore some of the city whilst SM went to the performances.

So Sunday evening I strolled through Bute Park and Monday morning the two of us wandered in a different direction.  The flowers are glorious:

Monday afternoon I looked round Cardiff Castle.  Although the Keep is the original motte and bailey castle, the rest of the building was done up in the late 1800s and very fancy and ornate.  I like my castle medieval, but nevertheless the tour was interesting.  I also walked through the tunnel under the wall which was used by the local population in WWII during air raid warnings.  And walked back along the battlements.  The picture is the view north from the keep.

Tuesday afternoon I took the river bus down the River Taff to Cardiff Bay, a quick boat trip round the bay, and then another river bus back to Bute Park.  The pictures are of the Bay:

SM enjoyed the singing and will be going back tomorrow for the final - I enjoyed the sunshine and some time to explore.
