Instructions for making the snowman
Dec. 11th, 2015 05:39 pmSince they were requested - this is how to make him:

If anything is not clear, please ask. They are relatively easy to make working one-to-one; it's slightly more complicated with 17 Brownies. We worked on a step by step approach for the whole pack, rather than let them rush ahead by themselves.

- Take a small child's sock - white ankle socks can be bought cheaply
- Cut off about two-thirds of the foot.
- Turn top section of sock inside out.
- Gather up cut end with string and tie tightly.
- Turn sock right way out again (string is then inside sock and holding it together).
- Fill sock with rice up to cuff level. Gently tap sock on surface to encourage rice to settle and add extra rice. Snowman should stand up.
- Tie off top with more string.
- Squeeze sock about two thirds of the way up to form head. (Aka wring the snowman's neck!)
- Tie third piece of string around neck.
- Trim ends of string, but not too close to snowman.
- Take a thin strip of felt and cut ends to make fringes.
- Tie scarf round snowman's neck.
- Use double sided sticky dots to attach googly eyes and buttons.
- Make a small hole for nose. Use the point of some nail scissors, so the hole is very small. Insert nose - tiny orange stick about 1cm long 2mm square.
- Take toe end of sock.
- Attach small sparkly pompom to end with another sticky dot.
- Roll sock ends over and place on head at hat.
