Summary: My first attempt at Sherlock fandom, so a 221b seemed a good place to start

( The Meeting )

“You okay?” DI Lestrade touched John Watson on the shoulder.

“Yeah, it’s just,” the younger man tailed off.  Lestrade said nothing, waiting for John to put his thoughts into words.  “sometimes I think it would be nice to stop and have a break.  Don’t get me wrong, Sherlock is great and I’d miss chasing round after him, but ...”

“How about a coffee?”

“Thanks.”

They walked down the road and round the corner to a small café.  Lestrade ordered two coffees and then as an afterthought two sausage sandwiches.  He watched as John attacked the sandwich as if he hadn’t eaten for many hours.  Which, Lestrade reflected, was probably true.

“Thank you, I needed that.  Let me pay you back.”

John took some coins out of his pocket and pushed them across the table.  Lestrade put his hand on top of John’s to push the money back.

“It’s no problem.  My treat.”

About to remove his hand, he looked up and into John’s eyes.

“Would you like ...”

“Maybe we could ...”

They both received a text message.

Hurry up and arrange to meet for a drink this evening

John looked down at the table.  Lestrade’s hand was still on his.

Lestrade hurriedly moved.  “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything.”

“That’s okay, I don’t mind at all.”

I said hurry up.  Then COME BACK
