It's going to be a crafty half term
Nov. 13th, 2015 02:27 pmWelcome to your regularly scheduled Brownie update post.
Last week we finished working for the Disability Awareness Badge, by completing a leaflet provided by Guide Dogs for the Blind - pictures to colour, puzzles to complete,so something for everyone. We also showed them an example of the alphabet in Braille, and some glasses-shaped acetate which demonstrated various types of sight loss. All of which kept them entertained until it was time for the enrollment.
Of seven new girls who had started in September, five were enrolled. There were, inevitably, two who dropped out; one came for a week and presumably didn't like it - we weren't surprised, she was already nine and clearly found some of the activities beneath her. The other girl has got a place in a pack closer to her home.
This week, as the beginning of our half term concentrating on crafts (a popular activity pre-Christmas), we made cardboard wreaths decorated with paper leaves in autumnal colours. A very easy craft and one which they all seemed to enjoy - it certainly kept them occupied, which bodes well for the rest of term. Of course, some rush through the craft, some spend so much of their time chatting they only half finish, and others take time and produce some lovely results. One of our Brownies, who's been with us for nearly three years, made a beautiful wreath. When she began she hardly tried, but now she's growing up, and it's really encouraging to see what she's producing.
The highlight of the evening was being given letters to take home to say we're going to Frankie & Benny's for our Christmas celebration.
