I'm getting as forgetful as the Brownies
Jan. 30th, 2016 10:04 pm... and there you are, wondering what we've been doing for the last couple of weeks ;)
Last week we continued to look at parts of the Brownie promise. One of the most difficult sections of the re-written promise is "To be true to myself and develop my beliefs" - these are seven and eight year olds. We talked a bit about how we are all different, and need to accept other people having their own beliefs. We looked at how some people lived on their own, with one parent, and others had brothers and sisters and mum and dad. We found out different people liked different groups and books and music. And then they each got to draw round their hand, cut out the drawing and write on the fingers the things which made them unique.
This week we were on easier ground. Part of the Brownie Law is "a Brownie Guide does a good turn every day". So they drew a good turn tree on a piece of paper and then cut out six leaves which they stuck on the tree. The leaves were dated Friday through to Wednesday. The Brownies took the trees home and have to write on the leaves the good turn they did each day. (The reason for omitting Thursday is to allow the trees to be put in Brownie bags Wednesday night/Thursday morning, before a good turn can be done). All the Brownies who bring back their tree with five or six leaves completed will get a badge. We await the results with interest.
We finished the evening with an enrolment. Two sisters, who both made their promise beautifully clearly.
