The only one on your list that I've read is The Wine of Angels and that book got me into collecting/reading more of the Merrily Watkins series. I agree that the books do get quite convoluted but I like the subject matter, old religion vs new religion, and the supernatural elements and some of the characters are interesting, if occasionally annoying. But I think a reader would either really like them or not be into them at all.
