Before we went to Germany, one of my friends had recommended we take a river trip.  This was an excellent idea, and we saw a good deal of the city in the hour.

Various buildings:

And in particular the Dom (Cathedral), the Reichstag,

and one of the museums on Museum Island.  Plus a German eagle on one of the bridges:

Everywhere there were memories of when the city had been divided by the Berlin wall.  These crosses are in memory of people who died trying to cross the wall, and the gap between the buildings is because the wall used to be there.

Apart from the river we did find some other things to see, including the Berlin bear, and Beethoven (my favourite composer).

We also had an excellent lunch, and apple streusel at tea time.  I have no pictures, so you will have to take my word for how good they were.

I'm so glad that you have had a nice trip. Berlin is such a great city, I connect so many (LotR) memories with.

Super cool about why the buildings are spaced like that! So hard to imagine a city divided, to have had this tiny island of Western Europe in a sea of Eastern Germany.
