Not really making any artistic progress

The cross stitch is going well though:



And I'm already looking at which bookmark to add to my Christmas list, although nothing has leapt out at me yet.  I'd like to do another Fine Art kit, but neither the DMC National Gallery nor the British Museum really inspire me.

But art wise I'm not getting anywhere.  I have a daily 'slot' when I do my cross stitch, but nothing similar for art.

Here, just to prove I have done something is a couple of sketches I drew in Bessborough Gardens when I was on my way to the Tate Gallery:



Bessborough Gardens is a recent square - it was the site of Holy Trinity church which was demolished in 1954 due to bomb damage.  The buildings are 1980s pastiche white stucco facade houses - which I hadn't realised.  Anyway, a third floor two-bedroomed flat was on sale for £1,385,000 in May this year.  So I won't be moving in anytime soon.

Lastly, have a photo of a rainbow, taken from the window of a rather less expensive Gloucester house - but we have three bedrooms.

I haven't had a lot of time for cross stitch lately, but I'll have to get some pictures up.

Hurray for the cross stitch. It looks really good. And at least you're making a stab at the sketching. I like the photo of a rainbow a lot, too.

Love the Monet cross-stitch. I can imagine that's really satisfying to build up. And blimey, two bedrooms for nearly £1.4m... ack!

Thank you. It is satisfying. Although I get so involved in the stitches, sometimes it's only when I take a picture I realise how the painting is starting to appear.

The cross stitch does look great ^__^ And I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but to my (untutored) eye it does look like your skill and confidence with your sketching is increasing at least - I like the texture of the tree bark and the leaves especially.

That is quite something. I have zero patience for cross stitch, but it sure is lovely.

Thank you - the only way I'm going to improve is by practise and I feel if I don't blog about what I'm doing I'll give up completely.

I find the concentration required therapeutic, because I cannot think about anything else while I do it. And because I'm following a counted cross-stitch pattern it's logical, which also appeals. Strangely, with other sewing projects I undertook last year I got part way through and got bored following the patterns and went my own way, this clicks with me. (Although I do choose pictures I want to reproduce, I suspect something more cutesy would also go its own way.)

17 rows to go! I'm amazed how quickly I've got through it. When I started I expected it to take getting on for a year, but in fact it's been four months and I think it will take about another month.

In our area for that price you could buy a rather nice 6 bedroom property complete with coach house and 4 acres of ground. Although sadly it does require some modernisation. I can't afford that either.

I don't have a specific project at the moment but it's getting close to the time for me to start thinking about Christmas presents!
