Autumn may have begun, but we still have some flowers, and the acer's leaves have changed colour:



We bought the verbena when we went to Charlecote Park and it's grown really well.

The pots still look good, the heathers are doing well, and the begonia (I think) we brought from my mum's seems happy with the move:



We've had quite a variety of colours of snapdragon this year.  All are self-seeded but clearly don't care.

Thank you. Acers are popular for gardens over here - pretty and not too big.

Nice to see the snapdragons are still doing their own thing ^___^ I particularly like the first picture of them. It almost looks like you'd designed their planting arrangement - it's such an attractive display.

Also particularly taken with photo number five. A really lovely assortment of plants ^___^

Yes - they've been very happy this year. They just grow wherever they fancy and we let them get on with it. They look pretty and the bees like them.

Your Japanese maple is gorgeous. Those are one of my favorite maples.
Why do you call it acer and not maple? Acer is the genus name (acer japonicum is the species name for your maple).

I'm glad you like our Japanese maple. They are sold as 'acers' which is why I refer to it as an acer. (Not being a botanist!)

Yes, in the rectilinear pot is a begonia.

We thought it was. My mother has forgotten the names of many plants now.

Maple is so pedestrian and common, marketing needs something exciting and new, even if it's torn from Latin by way of Carl Linnaeus. Also, Japanese Maples do need more careful environments so marketing them as acers makes it more likely the new plant parent reads the care instructions.
