Character: DI Lestrade

Word Count: 221
Summary: I met some lovely people in London at the weekend, who ship John/Sherlock, so I wrote this for them. Lestrade watches John and Sherlock together and wishes.
DI Lestrade stood looking at John Watson helping Sherlock Holmes at the crime scene. John’s concentration was intense and he smiled whenever Sherlock spoke to him. Lestrade sighed; if only John would look at him like that.
Angrily he mentally kicked himself; he was a greying police inspector, not a lovesick teenager. He turned to Donovan and spoke to her rather more sharply than he intended. She looked up, surprised and muttered ‘what’s eaten your canary?’ under her breath.
Lestrade continue to snap at everyone, reasoning if he wasn’t allowed to be happy, then no-one else should be either.
Later, as they packed up, John tapped him on the arm. “Is everything okay?” he asked.
“Of course,” Lestrade answered shortly. “Why?”
“You seem to be out of sorts.”
“It’s nothing you can do anything about. Look, Sherlock’s leaving. Shouldn’t you be following him?”
“No, he doesn’t need me at the moment.”
“He will do soon enough.”
“Lestrade,” John looked directly at him. “Are you jealous?”
Lestrade turned away, not wanting John to see the expression on his face.
“Oh, you idiot. Sherlock’s just my flatmate. I make a point of going with him on your cases just so I can see you, like a bloody teenager.”
Lestrade turned back. “You’re serious?”
John nodded.
Lestrade grinned; his day had become much brighter.
Unfortunately it didn't turn out quite the way I intended
