Preparing for Remembrance Sunday
Oct. 25th, 2019 11:13 amOur last meeting of the half term. Flamingo had arranged for the local leader of the Royal British Legion to come to talk to the Brownies about Remembrance Sunday and the importance of remembering. The girls listened attentively and hopefully either gained some new information, or were reminded of what they already knew. Just under half the pack should be attending the remembrance parade, and we know one will be at a different parade, which is good. Once again I won't be there, since I'm speaking at my own church.
They then played a game and in their sixes had to design the centre of a wreath which will be laid on behalf of the Brownies. Most of them came up with some good ideas. However, our particular difficult girl instantly took herself apart - and there were only three in her six this week, the others were away for various reasons. I asked her why and she said, "they don't let me join in." (This had been her excuse last week, when it turned out they had tried to encourage her to join in, but she only wanted them to follow her wishes and not incorporate the wishes of all six of them.) I got cross and said, "You haven't even started, so how can you say they won't let you join in?" She did join in, but somewhat reluctantly.
We're encouraging all the Brownies to do one of the interest badges which tie in with our Be Well theme: Grow your own, Dancing, Mindfulness, and I have made a Facebook post about each badge to hopefully get the parents involved. There's been little response so far, but at the beginning of this week I wrote about the Mindfulness badge, and was delighted when one of our Brownies had done all three clauses, and her aunt had signed to say she'd done the part I couldn't check. The Brownie was proud to be our first recipient of the badge too.
