It's a combination. I read a lot of detective novels, especially Golden Age ones. Then there are books that friends/comm members have recommended - every year I tend to ask for suggestions so I read more widely. Plus if an actor etc I particularly likes recommends something I will try it, again to widen my horizons.
This year I set myself a challenge to work through four lists of 11-12 books each, one a month, which is at the bottom of my post here and the piles are already increasing ready for next year!
