smallhobbit: (Fannish 50)

This will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me.  Richard Armitage is my favourite actor.  I've seen him in two plays (The Crucible and Uncle Vanya - twice!) and very many television series and films (on television) and I'm a great fan of his audio work.

One of his characters, Lucas North from Spooks (MI5) is one of my favourite fandom characters, and I've also written his Guy of Gisborne from BBC Robin Hood and John Thornton from the mini-series of North & South.  The latter has a kiss on a train which isn't in the book but was agreed by a number of us on a recent FutureLearn course as being one of the highlights.

Joy Ellis' Jackman & Evans series, narrated by Armitage, is one of my favourite detective series, which I've included as a separate Fannish 50 and I'm looking forward to the release of the next in the series next month.

Armitage has also turned author, and although I wasn't as enthusiastic about his debut novel Geneva as some, it hasn't stopped me pre-ordering on Audible his next one which won't be out for another year.

I know longer make a point of watching everything he releases, especially as we don't have Netflix, and on occasions I will read the source novel to see whether or not it will appeal, but I've certainly made some interesting discoveries in following his output, including his take on Francis Dolarhyde as the Red Dragon, when I would never have expected to enjoy the book.
