Goals for 2024/25
Apr. 24th, 2024 10:39 amI have been setting three annual goals every year since 2014, which totally amazes me. The aim is that the goals be attainable but require a certain amount of commitment in one way or another.
The other thing which amazed me as I looked back was how many of the goals I have set in the past have become part of my lifestyle. For several years one of my goals was To Write All The Things, which meant I was willing to try different things and discovered much greater variety which I enjoyed. I've cut back on my writing now, being more selective as to what I want to write, but that is because there are other claims on my time.
Other major achievements have been how many more books I'm reading and the wide selection, plus my complete enjoyment in crafting activities - one goal a few years ago was to do a craft activity every day when I was at home, now I regularly do two projects most days.
It's also been instrumental in reducing the number of courses, audiobooks and trips on my To Do list down to manageable numbers and helped me to keep on top of the lists - I enjoy doing them all but for me a massive List is as likely to put me off as encourage me. And on a more mundane level, when I retired I had a specific aim of getting done a pile of uninteresting, but essential, tasks and again I now have a weekly slot to tackle them.
So, given all the above, I now need to set my new goals:
Goal 1: To do something new each month
I've had this for a number of years now but it's always rewarding. It doesn't have to be anything major, sometimes there's so much going on that there isn't time for being very adventurous. I have a few things I'd like to do but they will also depend on other people's availability.
Goal 2: To do a monthly review
I've been retired for three years and volunteer in different places and have my own interests to pursue, all of which is great. Or is it? With no end goal in sight it's very easy to just continue in the same vein without reviewing what I'm doing. So I'm going to aim to do a monthly review - I even have a journal which I can use to write it in - with the aim of maybe incorporating any changes I decide over the year to make in next year's goals.
Goal 3: To complete a bigger knitting project
I'm currently doing several cross-stitch or similar projects, but not any knitting. It would be good to find a suitable knitting project, one which might take a while, therefore justifying the cost of yarn, which I could perhaps start in the autumn. This year I've knitted myself two hats and two tank tops/vests which I'm delighted with, but probably don't need any more. The idea is a garment for myself, so then I can enjoy wearing it.
