The Snow Queen
Feb. 21st, 2014 10:36 pmWe went to the annual pantomime of the amateur dramatic group attached to my church tonight. It was everything you would expect: forgotten lines, dodgy accents, cheerful singing, scenery that was actually quite good, audience participation. And it was great fun. The players were clearly enjoying themselves and nobody had high expectations.
SM commented when the Snow Queen came on at the beginning "She was in the chippie earlier". As people arrived they were ticked off a list - no idea why, since we had our tickets with us - which caused confusion since only my first name was down, few people know my surname, but lots of people know who I am.
The children who were taking part did really well. There wasn't a lot of plot and clearly it was written to play to the strengths of the principal actors, the chorus line doubled up as both women and their husbands, due to the inevitable lack of men. There was a woodcutter who sang The Lumberjack Song.
And I won a bottle of wine in the raffle.
