Be careful what you wish for
Mar. 6th, 2014 08:53 pmIt was Brownies tonight. Last week, after Brown Owl had put cards in the new primary school, we had six new girls. We were fairly convinced that not all of them would come back. And in fact, of the six, one decided it wasn't what she wanted to do. Which was fine, because these are all girls who had no previous experience and hadn't talked to any of our current Brownies, so probably had no idea what to expect. The remaining five still appear enthusiastic. And one of them had brought a friend this week, so we're up to six new girls again.
My article appeared in the local free magazine. It's not brilliant, and considering the sort of thing I normally write, it's not even well written. But it should be understandable if read by a potential Brownie, as well as a parent or carer. And when Brown Owl read it, she was impressed, and commented that it was amazing how much we did. Which is true, it's not until you look back over a couple of months that you realise just how much we do get up to.
This week they decorated boxes, decoupage style. In other words they stuck pretty paper on little boxes and got sticky. All but one of the girls enjoyed the craft and went home proudly showing whoever picked them up what they'd made.
And we gave out the letters about the sleepover in the city museum. Dinosaurs vs Brownies. I know which one is more likely to be afraid.
