Home goals, Away goals, Own goals
Jun. 4th, 2014 08:09 pmIt's roughly eight weeks since I set my goals for this year, so a good time to reflect on the progress made. Or not.
Firstly, the challenge to 'write all the things'. This is going surprisingly well, although not much is visible yet. I can now tick off the Coffee Shop AU, a ficlet written for a friend's birthday. Meet the Baker. I've also dabbled in angst: Broken Dreams. More to the point, I've written something for
ficmountain for a small fandom I would probably not have attempted previously, as well as a ficlet for the bonus round of
sherlock_remix. And I may write something for
apocalyptothon. So, yes, plenty of home goals.
I've only been to one meeting of the PCC, which was okay. Except I spoke rather more than a number of other people. We discussed the accounts. I asked questions, more than I probably should have done, but that was the effect of having spent all day working on the budget for the day job. And then they discussed health & safety and I could see things that might need attention, so I contributed that I do have a health & safety qualification. A couple of own goals I fear. But I did get to be enthusiastic about Messy Church, so that's one back.
And lastly, learning German. Hmm. I spent a few weeks using Duolingo and learnt a bit. But then it dropped off, and there were other more exciting things to do. I shall have to hunt round for another free internety thing. It doesn't matter if it's back to basics. If I do the basics in a number of different ways there's a good chance some of it will stick, and really that's all I need. An away goal.
One could say 'room for improvement', but when I set these goals out, I said that any progress was good, so I'm happy that progress, even if stuttering on occasions, is being made.
