Back at Brownies
Jun. 12th, 2014 10:15 pmWe went back to Brownies last week, and as I put in my 'Happy' post, we are full. Which means 24 girls with 3 leaders. Not only does that mean that we are up to capacity on our adult: child ratio, but there really isn't any more space for extra girls. We had four turn up to join last week, following the two additions we'd attracted before the half term holiday. And again, apart from one who was a Rainbow, they are all new to Guiding.
Last week was the traditional beginning of new half term and games evening. This week they made desk tidies for Father's Day, out of cardboard boxes and plastic trays, covered in wrapping paper. Father's Day is always slightly complicated. We always stress that the gift can be given to anyone, not just a father. There are some who will give it to their father, there are others whose parents are divorced, and one who said she had three step-fathers. At the moment we don't have any forces' children where the father is serving abroad, but we've had that in the past, where they had already sent presents to their fathers who were in Afghanistan, leaving us to suggest they could give what they had just made to their dads when they returned.
There's a district birthday party next week to celebrate the 100th Brownie birthday. We're taking 13 of our Brownies. There's a drumming workshop and biscuit decorating amongst other activities, so it should be fun. Or exhausting. Possibly both!
