Guys and Dolls

vix_spes asked if anyone wanted to go and see Guys and Dolls at the Savoy Theatre I immediately said I was interested. And why did she ask? Jamie Parker as Sky Masterson.
It was a glorious production. The sets and costumes were stunning - colourful but not clashing and did a great job in conveying both the sleazy atmosphere of New York and the exhilaration of Havana. The dancing was excellent - Carlos Acosta's choreography was bright and energetic. Everything I would want from a musical.
I didn't like Sophie Thompson's Miss Adelaide, whose affectations became irritating and over dramatic, but she was an exception. Gavin Spokes as Nicely Nicely Johnson provides the lead for "Sit Down Your Rocking The Boat" which I thoroughly enjoyed, and when I tweeted on the journey home how I had refrained from singing this on the train he favourited my tweet - a plus.
Jamie Parker and Siubhan Harrison as Sarah Brown make the perfect couple, and their songs slotted completely into the story. And while JP looked good in his 1950s suit, his final appearance in his Mission uniform totally had my vote.
