I may not write as much in the Lewis fandom as I used to, but I still enjoy the occasional foray, especially when the fic falls into my Oxford Tales series.  So thank you [personal profile] complicatedlight  for your prompt.

First Snow of the Year

Going to see this play was the original reason why we were up in London.  And having booked one night at a Travelodge booking a second and making a proper weekend visit seemed a good idea.

I'd chosen the play because Anne-Marie Duff was one of the two actors and I always enjoy seeing her.  However, by the time we got to going to the theatre I was starting to have doubts.  The last thing we saw her in was Common at the National Theatre, which wasn't very good.  And the last two-hander I'd seen was Beginning which, whilst there were lots of positive reviews I felt it catered to a very narrow market, of which I wasn't a part.  And then, when we got to Wyndhams Theatre we found our seats had been upgraded from Grand Circle to Royal Circle, so yay for better seats, but not good in that the theatre was nowhere near full.

In fact, the play proved you really can't tell what something will be like until you watch it for yourself.  Anne-Marie Duff and Kenneth Cranham were excellent together.  The story was compelling and thought-provoking.  The set was imaginative without being intrusive, and watching as it was re-arranged I thought how clever it was, but it didn't throw me out of the story.  And SM was also impressed with the programme.  The characters both have their flaws, but I found myself routing for both of them, and wanting them to find a solution to how they could have a relationship together.

An excellent way to round off a great weekend.
