Brownies restarted a couple of weeks ago with one girl having moved up to Guides and three new girls, a fourth joining last week.  As usual we began with a games night, ever popular, and gives the new girls a chance to take part without too much difficulty.  Each new girl is allocated a Brownie buddy from within her Six and they are responsible for making sure they can join in and making sure they know what to do.

Those of you who were Brownies in the past may remember the sixes all having names of fairy folk - Pixies, Gnomes, Elves, Sprites etc.  I was a Pixie - anyone else remember which six they were in?  We now have Squirrels, Hedgehogs, Badgers and Moles.

Last week I couldn't make it, but I gather they all had fun on mini-trampolines.  There was a visiting instructor who led them.

Yesterday as part of the Booklover badge we went to our local library.  There the girls were given an introduction to the library and all that is involved in the work of the library, plus some of the other activities, because there are free craft events, public speaking confidence building sessions for children as well as the summer reading challenge.  Roughly two-thirds of the girls go to the library which is good, and we've got forms so the others may be encouraged to join too.  They had a quiz to complete to show they could use reference books.

The girls enthusiasm for reading was great, and infectious, so even those who were perhaps less keen were caught up in it.  At the end one of the librarians read to them and they were completely engrossed in the story.  We shall be continuing working for the badge next week.
