Something New (No 2)
Jun. 26th, 2018 08:17 pmThis month's Something New had to be my new job. I'm now working for a Community Interest Company, which means instead of doing everything to make a profit we're working to help other people. Which, after 2.5 years in the telecoms industry is wonderful.
It also means I'm no longer purely involved with finances, although that is part of my job, but also in organising training events - booking trainers, rooms, and dealing with the applications to go on the events. Plus there are various other administrative jobs to be done, so the work is varied, which is great.
I'm slowly learning what's involved, making initial email contacts, and have been working hard putting email addresses into groups. It's not always the most exciting of tasks, but I do feel like I'm part of the whole, and getting to meet people, and being deliberately involved in what's going on, all of which is good.
Taking everything on board has been quite tiring, and I've been glad I'm only working part-time four days a week. It takes me ages to get going on Fridays because my brain is still recovering.
Another plus is that it's in Stonehouse, which is closer to home. In fact I leave at much the same time - it's a classic case of leave 10 minutes later and the journey takes an extra 15 minutes - so once I'm at work I have time to finish catching up on emails, or write a couple of hundred words, which is preferrable to staring at the back of another car/lorry for ages.
And it's by the Stroudwater Canal, so very pretty if I want to have a short walk at lunchtime.
