Three Classic War Films

One of the aims of the tour we've been on was to look at the sites of various classic WWII air war films and get a proper perspective on them.

First of all The Dam Busters

The Colditz Story



   

Lastly, The Great Escape at Stalag Luft III (Poland)  (No Americans were involved, no motorbikes, no Steve McQueen!)

Ha, I was wondering what that tour was when you mentioned travelling via coach!
I actually grew up not that far from the Möhnetalsperre, a bit more south but still solidly in the Sauerland aka reservoir country :D
I read the book and watched the TV show for Colditz, I would be curious to hear your thoughts on visiting the actual site

Oh wow, somewhere you will know very well. I thought the area was lovely.

For me, Colditz felt a bit like a 'Boys Own' adventure. The prisoners were inventive, but they were all officers, and therefore privileged, while a lot of other prisoners of war, not to mention other people, suffered considerably more and yet are forgotten. It all depends where the emphasis is placed.
