A couple of months ago the Art Fund had an offer whereby for £10 you could have a taster card which lasted three months.  This card gives free entry (or half price) to a number of museums, art galleries, and stately homes.  So I thought why not?  This would be a chance to visit a few places I'd not been to, and get in free to things when I'm in London.

Nature in Art 4

On Saturday we went to Nature in Art, which is just north of Gloucester.  I've never been, assuming it wasn't very interesting, but with free entry and a murky afternoon and the added bonus of a tea room, we decided to go.  Although small the exhibits were very good.  Everything is nature based, but it's not just paintings, but various other crafts as well, so really interesting.  There was also an exhibition by the Society of Nature Artists with some amazing paintings and sculptures.

They also have artwork in their garden, which is very peaceful.  So the afternoon was really worthwhile.

And today we went to Dyrham Park, which is a National Trust place north of Bath and again an interesting house to visit.  It was developed in the time of William III and has a large number of paintings of Antwerp and that area, as well as a big selection of Delft pottery.

They are currently re-instating the gardens as they would have been at the time, with very formal beds.

There was an ornamental pond, and the area behind the house was landscaped, with a deer park behind.
