10 months in

I've made a few new friends in the last couple of months on LJ and DW, which is great, but may lead to some confusion when I review my annual goals and how I'm getting on with them.  Because I set my goals in April, so a year runs from May to April.  This is partly historical: when I first set my goals it was April and I've kept to the same pattern.  But also I find April a far more realistic time to set goals than in the slightly strange space between Christmas and New Year.  So, without further ado:

Goal No 1 - Write all the things

Since this included 12 Days of Christmas plus One there was easily a wide selection, including Snocks, Rudybago and The Merry Wives of Windsor.  Words wise I'm down since the beginning of the year (I count those in standard years), but I'm signed up for 100fandoms , which should guarantee some new and very one-offs, plus fan_flashworks  is running a bingo which was irresistible.


Goal No 2 - Continue with the art and craft work

Apart from sketching some of the Alfred Munnings, I'm just not drawing.  I like the idea, but it would mean not doing something else.  The cross stitch however continues to progress, in that I do some most evenings, the area of canvas covered doesn't increase particularly quickly.




Goal No 3 - Do something new each month

December was the Christmas wreath, January I began Hungarian, so there are three months to go, and I have already planned what they will be.


It's also the time for me to start considering what I shall choose as my goals for 2019/20.  Goal No 1 will remain the same, although I'm toying with looking at perhaps adding some specific ideas.  Goal No 2 needs revamping - I'm definitely doing more craft work, or at least needlecraft, but at the moment I don't have time for anything else.  Goal No 3 has if anything (in combination with last year's try 12 new things) been over successful, in that I've found so many new things I can't actually do them all.

Thank you. There's so many different colours involved - I was quite excited the other day to use the third red.

Impressive goals with a nice mixture. I look forward to seeing what your new goals are, writing wise and new things - though I hope you don't overwhelm yourself!

The year thing actually isn't too confusing for me, for where I work a lot goes by financial years of April to end March, so this is not so far off that mark :D

I like making new friends - although I do like there to be some common thread between us, so I'm very happy to have friended you.

I try to be realistic with my goals, making them things I can achieve with a bit of time/effort, but being aware some things won't be possible. There's just so many things I'd like to do.

My job is basically the financial year, and then there's the school year (Brownies and SM's job (my husband)). But my reading and writing year begin in January.

Realistic goals are important because while they can stretch you they are doable, otherwise it is so easy to de-moarlise oneself.

Ah, another financial year person! :D School years yes, I have that running in the back of my head with church and friends. It makes for quite a mix having so many 'year' variations running through life, doesn't it?

Thank you! A result of many years spread over Livejournal and Dreamwidth collecting icons made by very talented people. In a few instances I have been lucky with my dear friend making icons for me, or being involved in a gift exchange which is lovely.

Yes, that is rather amusing ;) I sometimes think my circle around me must believe me mad, with the way I switch the definitions of 'years'. lol

A good way of approaching book reviews/summaries, I look forward to your insights. Do you use the library? Unfortunately the library where I live has such a poor selection I rely on my own books or borrowing from friends, (which is fine, currently have a massive backlog of books to read...).

I do use the library - normally I reserve books online, which means I have access to books in the libraries throughout the county, as well as the main county store, which is where I've found some older books. Otherwise I buy cheaply from Ebay and Abebooks, on the basis that spending two or three pounds on something which will entertain me for two or three weeks (I generally only read at night) is a lot cheaper than many forms of entertainment.

The cross stitch is coming along. There is only so many hours in the day so I don't blame you jettisoning the sketching. My sister sent me a puzzle which is languishing because I Just Don't Like It and would rather be doing something else.

Too many New Things to Do. I'd love an Alternate Universe where we could trying everything.

Thank you - Rudybago has turned out to be quite popular; I was very pleased when you asked for him. 12 fandoms is a great start, especially since you're beginning from scratch. I'm at 35, because I'm using some from previous years, and I'm aiming to complete it this year.

Definitely not enough time for things we don't like - it's bad enough finding the time for those we do!
