Ice

Ice cubes for drinks, sometimes.  Ice packs for injuries etc - can be useful, and they can be put back in the freezer for use again, rather than the old standby of frozen peas, which, unless you have a sudden craving to eat a whole bag, have to be thrown away.  And I don't like ice on roads/pavements.  Ice is fine in its place, and there should be more of it in the polar regions undoubtably.

Planet

For care of the planet, see above re ice in the polar regions.  I admit I could do more, but I do try to do something.  I also think that if we remember we are on one small planet amongst billions we might remind ourselves of the magnitude of life around us.

Frying

Because I rarely cook - SM does most of it - I also don't fry much now, although I used to, cooking mince for shepherd's pie, or spaghetti bolognese for example,  With onions.  Now something fried will mean fish and chips when coming back of an evening and we really want Something To Eat.

Interesting that SM does most of the cooking! It's going to 41 degrees today so not much ice to be had (outside, that is!).

I throw the peas back in the freezer, with the knowledge that they're Not For Eating peas, only Icepack Peas. Doesn't matter then if they thaw and refreeze repeatedly.

Your mention of "fish and chips" reminds me - I saw Rocketman, the movie biopic about Elton John, earlier this week. I realize there's some artistic license that has to be taken, but one thing that irritated me was early on when Elton (Reggie)'s grandmother takes him to the Royal Academy of Music for the first time, then hands him some coins for "a packet of chips and your bus fare home." No. It would have been a "packet of crisps," even in the 1950s, would it not?

Ah, ok. I knew what chips were, in Brit-speak, but when she said "a packet" I was thinking like those single-serve bags of crisps you can buy in shops or vending machines and couldn't imagine chips being sold that way, so I thought it was a vocab mistake. So ... just getting the chips wrapped in newspaper is considered a "packet"?
