Fabric Crafts

This Dare to Dabble was slightly different, as it was organised for a group who had a display on at Nature in Art and wanted to do a basic workshop as well.

We were given three different crafts to pick from.  I decided against the wet felting - I've done it before and it didn't appeal.  But I did try the two others.

Firstly, I used the fabric crayons.



To draw two autumnal leaves on a piece of A4 paper - just like any other colouring project.

Then I cut them out:



These were then placed face down on a piece of fabric and ironed:



And they came out beautifully vibrant.  As an experiment I tried again:



Much paler, but still visible.

After which I did some weaving - the board was already prepared:



I didn't quite have time to finish yesterday, so brought it home and completed it today, taking it off the board:



I was really pleased with the way both crafts turned out.

Fun! The leaves are lovely, and the weaving looks fascinating with the different materials used.

Thank you. I was amazed how well the leaves turned out. We were encouraged to use different materials for the weaving - it's something I would certainly consider doing again.

Those autumn leaves are lovely! My mother did a lot of weaving but it never really appealed to me as a craft though I liked what she produced!

Thank you. This weaving was very quick - it didn't take me long to complete once I was home - normally I drive myself, but that day SM was picking me up, which naturally was the day when I could have done with another 30 minutes. I would like to do some more - although when is a different matter!

The leaves you drew with fabric crayons turned out beautifully! They'd be great on something like a tea towel or maybe a runner.

The weaving is also great. I love the contrast of colours and types of wool/thread. I hope you'll post more pictures when it's finished.
