smallhobbit: (Christmas 2023)

Christmas plays a large part in many fandoms, and I certainly include it in many seasonal stories.

Most of those who follow this blog will know that I'm a Christian, and will not be surprised to hear I celebrate Christmas.  Which doesn't mean that I expect everyone else to do so.  And today we had a 'scratch Nativity' (unrehearsed), which began with our vicar saying 'What am I going to say?' and me replying 'Well, you know the story'.  This was followed shortly afterwards with her cry of 'I've forgotten the baby'.  Fortunately the toy pram in the children's corner had an occupant, who was hastily pressed into service.  We were running Chill Out Christmas - an hour of crafts, hot chocolate and a chance to 'chill out' in the early afternoon.  Not all the children wanted to take part, so we managed without Mary and Joseph, but we did have a star, who doubled as the donkey, an angel, a shepherd, a wise man and a camel (because earlier in the year we had been donated a camel costume).  It was fun and everyone enjoyed themselves - that's my kind of Christmas celebration.

And here are some of my Christmas photos from this year.

Happy Christmas to all who celebrate and Best Wishes at this time of year to all who don't!

At our lunch before the yule/Christmas break my boss told a funny story from a different school, where they had done a nativity play. The young boy who got the role of the person who says no to Mary and Joseph when they ask for a place to stay wanted a bigger role and changed the script when they were performing it for parents. Instead of saying no, he not only said yes, but elaborated that not only had they room, but they also had a big room, with a place to clean the baby and all. The boy playing Joseph tried to get story back on the right track, and again asked if they had room. But the innkeeper kept to his own script and said of course we have room. I wish I remembered more of what he exactly said, for he was on a roll and did not think saying no was fitting at all. In the end they just continued the rest of play as the story goes, but every year since the school has apparently done this version of the story.

Happy Christmas :D :D
