Family and Other Matters
Oct. 27th, 2013 06:51 pmSM on the phone to his mother "I'm falling asleep on the couch, I'll have to cut this call short." Mind you, he thought the Poirot mentioned in my last post was very good: he slept through the first hour and then once he'd woken up he pottered off to do something else. I suppose I should be grateful I didn't have to explain the plot to him, whilst trying to keep up with the current action.
I saw my mother yesterday. She's very pleased she's starting her voluntary job one afternoon a week on Wednesday. Apparently she had to repeat her date of birth to the people who interviewed her as they couldn't believe how old she was - I think she was rather flattered. It turns out because she's over 75 she has to confirm to them that her doctor has said it's okay for her to work. She wasn't going to see the doctor just for that, so she's going to tell them it's okay. She used to be so law abiding.
Right, where was I? Had a pause as SM had taken out his contact lenses and lost his glasses and I had to go and help. I found a different pair and insisted he use them to help him find his others. They eventually turned up having fallen off the toilet cistern.- why didn't I think of looking there?
We've got a storm coming. In typical fashion the media are panicking because it's news and half the rest of the country aren't taking it seriously. Not that there's much that can be done at this point. The old Severn Bridge is shut to high-sided vehicles and speed restricted, but that happens whenever it's windy. If the Met Office have got it right (and weather forecasting in this country is not easy) then the storm should pass over us overnight and whether I can get to work tomorrow will depend on how much damage has been done. No point in worrying.
