Several of my flist had enthused about Twelve Angry Men and I'd looked at dates and decided I probably couldn't justify yet another trip to London so would have to give this particular play a miss.  So when Emmy asked if anyone was interested in going I jumped at the idea - meeting a friend as well as seeing a play had to be accepted.

When we met outside the theatre Robert Vaughn was signing autographs on his way in.  He looked Old.  I've just googled him and he's 81 - he has every right to look old.  But he'll always be Napoleon Solo for me and therefore ageless.

For some reason I've never seen the film - I'm getting the DVD now to compare - so I was able to come to the play completely unbiased which is how I like to be.  It took probably about ten minutes for me to get into it and work out who was who.  Because the jurors are supposed to be anonymous and referred to only by number I found it harder to remember who held which views when they were bandied around; also 12 actors on stage at once is quite a lot to take in.  And for that reason it wasn't easy to predict what would happen next.  Which is of course the beauty of the play.

I liked Martin Shaw as the main protagonist.  He's not an actor that I know particularly well (ducks missiles aimed by Pros loving flist members) but I enjoyed his performance.  At the same time all the others had their points at which they dominated and it was not hard to feel the growing tension.  As for Robert Vaughn, I thought he was good yesterday, as his words cut through what at times was a melée of other voices, but now I am completely impressed.  On stage he looked elderly, as his character was supposed to be, but not old.

The stage was impressive.  How they managed it without being noticed I do not know.

So thank you very much Emmy for suggesting we go, it was brilliant.
