Graduation
Nov. 21st, 2013 08:54 pmMy daughter graduated today. We were extremely proud parents in a sea of extremely proud parents - and why not.
Because SM and I had to be in the middle of Coventry before 9 o'clock we'd stayed at a hotel in Stratford the night before - half an hour's drive away rather than a good hour and a half even assuming the motorway behaved itself. It was a nice hotel, we ate in their restaurant and talked for ages. Not that we don't talk at other times, but spending an evening together when neither of us has any obligations (he's learning music, I'm writing etc) gave us the chance to talk for longer.
The graduation ceremony was held in Coventry cathedral; a beautiful building and an impressive setting. For me it was as if things were coming full circle, since just under four years ago I had sat in the cathedral for a while when she went for her interview. And now she was graduating and all her hard work had paid off. I know she didn't put as much effort as she could have done, but equally I know that she did work hard to produce work that did what she needed to achieve.
Then we had the official photos, the gown and mortar board were returned and we took her out for lunch. After which we said our farewells and I gave her the money for her car parking (because some things never change).
On top of which her nursing PIN was activated today, so she is now officially a Staff Nurse.
Congratulations Daughter!
