My Weekend

I went up to London yesterday, by train (yey for words written) because I was going with friends to see "Jeeves & Wooster", only unfortunately the performance had been cancelled due to the illness of one of the actors.  I was, and still am, narked.  I know it can happen, but I had train tickets, and because it was an evening performance I was staying over - only a Travelodge, but still.  So I had spent a fair amount of money for nothing.  My friends have got tickets for a different day, and I should get my money back.  But I'm still left with the feeling that it was cheaper for the theatre management to cancel and claim on their insurance rather than have an understudy and so what if it had cost people to come.  Or is this just an extension of "you only have good theatre in London because that's where the theatre going people live"?

It wasn't an entirely wasted weekend.  I had gone up to London in the morning, planning on going to a museum/art gallery to make good use of my time, when I learned that some of my Sherlock friends were meeting other Sherlock people.  So I joined them and there were ten of us for lunch.  After which we wandered over to Regent's Park, met some further Sherlock peeps and ended up with, I think, 14 in the Hub café.  So that was fun.  Following that a large group of us headed over to the South Bank to walk through the market (I think technically it's a Christmas market, but it's still mid-November) and then the three of us left them to go to the theatre.  And then we returned joining up with three of the remaining group in an Italian restaurant.

So yes, those of you who were there and are reading this blog, it was great seeing you again and getting to chat (and look at photos of baby relations) I really enjoyed that and my gripe isn't with you lot at all.

And when I finally made it to my Travelodge I discovered that [livejournal.com profile] scfrankles had written a 221B for me which I loved, even if her description of me is rather inaccurage: I promise that I will do my best

Then this morning I went to sung matins at the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula, better known as the chapel in the Tower of London.  The directions are "straight along and turn left at Traitor's Gate".  It's a really good combination of the old and the new, as well as being someone peaceful in the heart of the crowds.
