One year goals
Apr. 12th, 2014 12:01 pmFurther to my previous post on setting goals, and having reflected on comments from my flist, here are my three goals for this year:
Firstly,
canonisrelative said "Write all the things". I did say that "all" might take longer than a year. But yes, to expand what I write would be a good goal. I can't see myself moving outside fanfic, and I certainly entertain no thought of being published. That, after all, requires effort and the one thing about writing for me is it is relaxation for myself. Yes, I know that I write for exchanges and deadlines, but that's a bit like me saying that I will have to get dressed in time to go to see my mother, I know it's feasible and isn't going to put too much of a strain on my life. However, it would be good to look a bit more deeply at some of the things I write.
Secondly, I've just been elected onto the PCC of our church. Elected is rather a loose description, nine volunteers for nine spaces, no election, fait accompli. Normally, I try to avoid these involvements like the plague, but they were keen that I represent Messy Church, and I think it's important that we get a fair clout, so I agreed to stand. I need to keep watch so that I am not trapped by the finance committee and not let slip my health and safety experience. So my goal is to survive the year without getting involved time wise in things that I am forced to step back from again and stay clear of whatever factions exist. And on a more positive front, ensure that we get plenty of support for Messy Church.
Thirdly,
kim_j_8472 asked about courses I could do. As I said to her, I avoid courses because of the need for regular commitment and I know I function badly when I'm over committed to things. However, we are going to the Moselle in October, and although it's a coach tour and therefore we won't need to worry about the basics "the coach has broken down, please send a mechanic" I do need to learn some German for the important things in life - buying drinks and cakes. I know a little German - learnt it for two years in school, but that was many years ago, and wouldn't have covered anything truly of use - and I do like to have the opening sentence in a language, even if the reply comes back in English.
When originally considering my goals I had thought of saying "continue to go to the theatre", but I've already booked tickets for three things this week and am waiting for a fourth to open, so that hardly seems like a future goal, more a current achievement.
