The answer will be revealed at the end!
Last week we held a badge night. Every so often we encourage the Brownies to work for a badge - sometimes we do them in our meetings, other times we suggest they do things at home and then we test them and they complete them in the meeting. This, as can be imagined, has various results. We know there are some families where the girls receive no encouragement and we try to give them extra support during the meeting. Other times it's clear the girls are not really interested. And occasionally we are surprised, and delighted, to see how much help they've had - not in the parent/relative doing it for them, but in the encouragement and suggestions they've been given.
This time we suggested about half the pack - the newer girls - chose the Artist badge, because it's easy and therefore a good introduction and just over half of them earned the badge. One Brownie chose Healthy Heart and did really well - she's enthusiastic and her mother, despite having three other younger children, is always very positive. She even made up a game which we got to play. One had chosen Agility and did part of the badge that evening, teaching some of the others a routine which they showed to the pack. She needs to have her gymnastics teacher sign off the rest of the badge; I'm not sure whether she will do so. And three Brownies chose Friend to Animals, two of them concentrating on pets, one on endangered animals. They had all worked hard on the badge and two of them, as part of the fundraising clause, held a cake sale at the end of the meeting.
This week the Cubs, who also meet in the community centre, invited us to join them for their meeting when they had a speaker who had brought some exotic creatures. We got to meet a giant snail, a millipede, a tarantula, a tortoise and a corn snake. Did you know a milipede starts off with only 6 legs? They all enjoyed themselves, although with so many children (about 40) it was hard at times to keep them quiet and interested.
And the answer to the question, in case you hadn't worked it out: my Brownie pack.
