If I never see another needle
Feb. 11th, 2016 09:04 pmit will be too soon. I have a feeling I've said that before, probably last time we were sewing at Brownies. We had wool, we had large needles, we had plastic canvas for sewing on. And we had 17 Brownies. A couple of them completed a book mark. Most of them managed three or four rounds of stitches and took the article home for completion. And one or two really didn't have a clue. I threaded needles, I undid stitches and redid them, I threaded needles, I finished off one colour and started another, I threaded needles, I pointed out that if they concentrated a little more on their sewing and a little less on their chatting I might not have to come to the rescue quite as often. They had a great time. Brown Owl and I went home to open the wine bottle.
Last week we talked about the forthcoming Pancake Day, and what Shrove Tuesday was about and a little about Mardi Gras and Carnival. Then we played some games and had pancakes. These were not made from scratch pancakes, but bought ones (there was no way we were making 18 pancakes), which they enjoyed - the favourite filling was chocolate spread.
Also last week they brought back their Good Turn Trees. Six of them managed to both complete and return them, which was more than we had perhaps expected. And they'd all done different things to help. A few of the Brownies were away, so we extended the return date for a week and this week many more trees came back, so almost all the pack finished their trees. It was really lovely to see they were keen to act like Brownies. Also, a number of the parents had written what their daughters had done, and it was encouraging to see the support they were getting.
