Last week we took part in our county Grow Guiding Challenge.  In their sixes the girls had to come up with an advertising campaign to promote girlguiding, either to encourage more girls to join or find new adult helpers.  With 21 on our waiting list, we don't really need any more who want to join our Brownie pack at the moment, but the need for leaders is always present.  One six produced excellent posters, one group demonstrated a radio advert, one group did a sort of podcast, and the final group gave a great tv advert, which would have worked in reality.  They then each drew posters to take home to encourage more leaders - we have had one vague enquiry.

This week, with Doodles away (her mother's seriously ill in hospital) the Leader-in-training and I had to run two 45 minute sessions to enable the girls to achieve their Express Myself badge.  Our meeting lasts 90 minutes, to include beginning and ending, and tidying up.  So we split the girls into two groups and while my group made pop-up cards, Flamingo's group made kites, and then they swapped over.  The idea behind pop-up cards is easy, but when you have 11 Brownies all making them at the same time and you need to ensure they each do every step correctly it's not quite as easy.  We cut out all the 'Let's all talk about what we'd like to do' and said, 'this is what we're doing' and they were quite happy.  And they all went home with a kite, a pop-up card and a cup cake because one of the Brownies was working for her Baking badge.  And we both breathed a sigh of relief.

Having read that, I am sure many of you are keen to volunteer, so do let me know if you are ;)  As the radio advert said, "We're noisy and we have great fun!"
