Fannish Fifty: Jane Wunderly Mysteries
May. 14th, 2023 02:28 pmI have recently discovered the Jane Wunderly Mysteries, written by Erica Ruth Neubauer. I would term them as cozy mysteries - easy to read, enjoyable, so long as you don't take them too seriously. Although the setting is the 1920s, the attitudes of some of the characters are more modern than those of books written in the period. However, if you're happy to ignore this, then the books are entertaining.
The narrator, Jane Wunderly is an American (as is the author) widow, who is travelling with her aunt. The first book Murder at the Mena House is set in Egypt and incorporates various activities of the well off visitors to the country. The second, Murder at Wedgefield Manor is set in England, at a country house and again is an entertaining read. There is a romantic sub-plot which continues from the first book, with a mysterious English gentleman.
There are two more books in the series, which I hope to read at some point, with a fifth due out at the end of the year.
For any fan of cozy historical mysteries (
aome I'm looking at you) who just want an enjoyable read, I would recommend these books.
