This should have been a Brownie post, but due to the weather last night's meeting was cancelled, so instead, have some snowy pictures and a meme.

I was tagged by Alissanne: write your 10 favourite female characters from 10 different fandoms and tag 10 different people.  But that got me thinking about female characters in my top fandoms (by order of fics written), so I thought I'd approach this in a slightly different vein.

Sherlock (BBC): For me DS Donovan would be the one with the most potential - I've written her occasionally, and should probably write more.  She's definitely an outsider, and is treated as such by most of the main characters.

Sherlock Holmes (ACD): Mrs Hudson - although not a particular presence in the canon stories, certainly makes her presence felt in fanfic.  To which I would add Esme and other OC maids I've written, as well as Annie Hopkins in my Sussex Retirement 'verse.

Spooks: I'm only writing series 7 to 9.  I'm not a fan of Ros Myers - not the character's fault, but she's played by Hermione Norris, who I'm not keen on.  I write Ros and Jo Portman, but have little real attraction to either of them.

Lewis: I will include both Jean Innocent and Laura Hobson in my fics, but don't feel drawn to either.  I'm fond of DS Tomlinson, an OC, who in some ways resembles DS Maddox.  I've not introduced Maddox because Tomlinson belongs in my Oxford Tales 'verse, which had begun before Maddox arrived and which had already become an AU by then.

Robin Hood (BBC): Normally I'm writing Guy/Much and there are no female characters who I like sufficiently to bring in.

The Hobbit: Dis, sister of Thorin, mother of Fili and Kili.  Who I see as a strong, confident lady.  Since it's inevitably an AU when she appears I write her as I feel best.

Life on Mars (UK): A tie between Annie Cartwright and Phyllis Dobbs.  Both non-nonsense women.

Winnie-the-Pooh: Kanga, although I rarely write her.

Call the Midwife: Too many to single out.  But no list of favourite female characters should be without the nuns and midwives of Nonnatus House.

Forever: Jo Martinez.  She has so much to offer.

In addition, honourable mention should go to Donna Noble from Doctor Who.  And no list of female characters I write would be complete without Mouselet and Aemelia Vole.
