Writing Meme: Theme & Style
Mar. 13th, 2019 09:34 pmI've taken the questions for the meme
stonepicnicking_okapi has been answering. I didn't think I'd manage to answer them all, but here you are!
1. What made you start writing fanfic?
Originally I was thinking of doing a course and wanted to get some practice writing - it turned out fanfic was far more interesting than the course would have been.
2. Which of your own fanfics have you reread the most?
I either reread because I'm sure I've written something somewhere, like the diorama I'm using in my current
fan_flashworks ficlet, and want to be consistent. Or I receive AO3 kudos and haven't any idea what the fic is that's been kudosed.
3. Describe the differences between your first fanfic and your most recent fanfic.
I'd like to say the writing has improved, but I don't think there's a particular change.
4. Do you think your style has changed over time? How so?
I'm more confident writing outside my own experience.
5. You've posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you'd written it?
If it's ACD Holmes then it'll feature Lestrade or Hopkins in a positive light. The characters will probably be eating, and someone will be sighing. And, of course, the appearance of the Ferret would be a giveaway.
6. Name three stories you found easy to write.
There are a number which flowed as soon as I had an idea - but most are short anyway
7. Name three stories you found difficult to write.
There have been prompts I've struggled with.
8. What's your ratio of hits to kudos?
No interest in looking.
9. What do your fic bookmarks say about you?
That I very rarely bookmark fics.
10. What's a theme that keeps coming up in your writing?
Hurt/comfort or crack/humour or casefic
11. What kind of relationships are you most interested in writing?
Hurt/comfort, competence, equal partners (including where strengths and weaknesses compensate)
12. For E-rated fic, what are some things your characters keep doing?
Disappearing behind closed doors
13. Name three favorite characters to write.
Lucas North, Dr Watson, the Ferret
14. You're applying for the fanfic writer of the year award. What five fanfics do you put in your portfolio?
I don't take my fanfic that seriously
