Fifth Year of Goals

And so my fifth year draws to a close.

Goal 1 - Write all the things

Yes, still writing all the things, although there's been a definite slow down over the last three months.  I've added another 10 fan_flashworks  badges to my tally, bringing them up to 113.  The badges I'm still working for have quite specific criteria, but I'm making progress with writing at least one qualifying fic/poem every two months.  Plus I've already earned two Bingo badges which is pleasing.  In the end I wrote 171,600 words last year, mainly due to 15,000 on two casefics for story_works .  For the first three months of this year I've written 32,000 words so I'm looking at 125,000 for the year.


Goal 2 - Continue with the art and craft work

Rather a mixed bag.  The art certainly didn't progress as I would have liked, although I have done a little sketching and the odd card for SM.  I had envisaged doing a variety of crafts, including possibly taking up knitting again, but in the end I concentrated on cross stitch.

  


Goal 3 - Do something new each month

As my recent post shows, this has been extremely successful, and one I'd recommend to anyone.  I finished a FutureLearn course on The Tudors, which I was rather disappointed in.  It was promoted as including the arts of the time, and although there was a little, most of that was used to underline the importance of the Tudor kings and queens, and I didn't really learn anything knew in that respect - in fact the Country House course I'd done had been more informative in that respect.


I shall be posting my goals for the next year (my sixth) in the next few days.

Thank you very much. I didn't achieve quite as much as I'd hoped, but I'm still pleased, which is the important thing.

Congrats on all your goals! I like your words, whatever form and number they take. And I have been following the progress of the cross-stitch. And horribly impressed with the sheer number of new things you've tried. Go you! Onto the next year!

PS. The images of the cross stitch just show up as blank circles that say '18+ LiveJournal' which makes me think those sunflowers have taken a decided turn for the naughty! I'm certain it's just the Russian wanting to make certain you don't propogate homosexual needlework.

Congrats on keeping up with the goals! Cross-stitch still counts as art, even if it's not drawing. The wordcount is outstanding - go you!

I use the badges to help decide what I'm going to write - although combining Challenge, Bingo and Badge can't be a problem at times.

I work the other way, write something and then if I remember, try to figure out which badge it might fit...

I always find combining challenges difficult, but I've managed for the bingo and for a few other things. I'm determined to get all three bingos!

Since I'm working for the pre-canon and post-canon badges, as well as chromatic and the animal one I rather need to decide before I write, since they're all quite specific. And like you I'm determined to get the three bingos.

You'll get the Bingo one easily. Good luck with your other badges! My problem with the post-canon one is that I'm unsure where my main canons end. DW is still going, Buffy canon continues in comics I haven't read, Torchwood has the audio books, MD which I didn't watch, and I think a fifth season in audio. FAKE has later stories after the manga... =/

Yes, post-canon is tricky, especially since a lot of my characters die at the end of the canon. Several of the ones I've written kill off either Holmes or Watson ;)

Thank you. I've found that setting goals in this way does encourage me to achieve them.

I'm still deciding on them - it's a question of getting the right balance.
