June Something: Days One to Four
Jun. 5th, 2020 12:06 pmI had decided not to do June Something, because it's 15 days of posting every day, and that's not me. But then I discovered last year I'd posted several blocks of days, so, I thought, why not?
Day 1: What's a new fandom you've fallen into since the last June something?
I've been reading and writing some Sanditon (the TV version) fics. Although it is problematic (in many ways) and I am definitely in my own corner. Plus The Red House, which is an A A Milne detective story, but there are only 8 fics on AO3, and I've written half of them.
Day 2: You're stuck in quarantine with two people from different fandoms. Who are they and who 'breaks' first?
If I get to chose, Mrs Hudson from the Sherlock Holmes stories (fic version), and one of the midwives from Call the Midwife, both very practical so we'll be fine. But if I look at my AO3 most popular characters I shall chose Dr Watson (again ACD version) out of him, Holmes and Lestrade, and the next character is inevitably Lucas North (Spooks). No prizes for guessing who breaks first, although with any luck Watson will persuade Lucas to take up comfort baking and we can have cakes galore.
Day 3: Who is the first character you fell in love with?
In a fandom way Sam Tyler from Life on Mars (UK). As a child I wanted to be a dalek, but that's probably not quite the same thing. I've moved on since then, although I still occasionally write a Sam and Gene pairing. And at times I'd still like to be a dalek!
Day 4: If you were introducing your favourite fandom to someone new, what one episode would you make them sit down and watch?
Difficult, because most of my favourites are characters, rather than the world they inhabit. For a complete world, I will go for Call the Midwife, but one episode wouldn't be enough, so watch a series, because it tackles so many issues that were relevant in the late 1950s/early 1960s and are still as relevant now.

Date: 2020-06-05 12:18 pm (UTC)I’ve heard of but not seen Sanditon. But being in your own corner is definitely a good thing.
Those are practical choices! Comfort making sounds nice.
Aww that’s kinda cute you wanted to be a dalek!
I watch Call The Midwife with mum and yeah you’re right about that, though it can get a little heavy at times.

Date: 2020-06-05 12:41 pm (UTC)Sanditon was enjoyable while it was on (with various caveats) but it was left unfinished - deliberately, the writer was hoping for an unwarranted second season.
I agree CTM doesn't always quite hit the mark, but that's noticeable partly because it so often is spot on.

Watson baking with Lucas would be quite amusing!

Date: 2020-06-07 01:31 am (UTC)I enjoyed Sanditon and watch Call the Midwife, which I find fascinating for the depiction of life in the 50's/60's - it's all so familiar and reminds me of my childhood despite that it's set in a different country than the one I grew up in.
